Dear Valley Home Families,
First off, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Debra Boggs, and I am your incoming Superintendent. I am excited to be coming home to a district that nurtured all three of my children (Hans, Evan and Emma Boggs) and that for more than a hundred years has provided so many children with an excellent foundation upon which to build their futures.
During this uncertain time, I didn’t want to wait until my official start date of July 1 to reach out to you and let you know that I have already been working alongside the other 25 district Superintendents of Stanislaus County to develop a plan to open school in a way that will maintain the safety of all of our children and families. In collaboration with our local Public Health Office Dr. Julie Vaishampayan, the Stanislaus County Office of Education has published a guide for opening up schools, which you can read in English or Spanish at https://www.stancoe.org/coronavirus, but things continue to change quickly. Since the guide was published, we’ve seen a spike in local cases and a new statewide order for face coverings in public. You can rest assured that I will continue to monitor the situation closely in the coming weeks.
When we open we will follow the most up-to-date virus protocols to ensure the safest possible environment for our staff and students. Social distancing will be practiced to the extent possible without moving to split schedules. If you don’t feel comfortable with your child returning to school, please reach out as soon as possible so that we can plan for an effective program of independent study and/or distance learning.
Again, it is difficult to provide detailed information as things continue to evolve. Please know that your child’s safety, wellbeing, and academic success will be at the heart of all decision-making.
It’s unfortunate that we must meet in such challenging circumstances, but I look forward to working with you in the coming years to continue the proud tradition that is Valley Home Joint School District. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me on my personal cell phone, number below.
